Pinning our Olympic dream on Julia Zeen
Business in the Bozboz office was interrupted today by the arrival of a BBC News film crew to interview graphic designer Julia Zeen about her Coca-Cola London 2012 Olympic Pin designs.
The pins, designed by Julia and fellow designer Stuart Langley, can be purchased online here, with another 3 exclusive designs only available to buy at the official Coca Cola Pin Trading Centres which have been set up at Hyde Park and the Olympic Park. These centres play host to thousands of collectors who buy and exchange pins over the course of the Games.
All Coca-Cola profits from pin purchases will be donated to the charity StreetGames which seeks to bring sports and volunteering opportunities to young people in disadvantaged communities across the UK.
The extensive range of exclusive Olympic and Paralympic pin badges cover a variety of themes. Some of the 182 official London 2012 pins designed by Julia and Stuart feature famous London landmarks, Olympic sports and iconic British designs such as London taxis and Routemaster buses. Other themes included in Stuart's ‘Typically British’ range of designs include Queuing, Rain and Tea.
Special designs have been produced in a limited edition of 10,000 for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games and are set to become sought-after collectors’ items.
As a reward for all her hard work Julia was nominated by Coca-Cola to be an Olympic Torchbearer, and as the project draws to a close another busy week for her has included interviews with BBC Radio Sussex and the University of Brighton, where she studied illustration.
You can see Julia talking about the pins on BBC South East tonight at 6.30pm.
