How To Books

How To Books have pioneered an exciting new approach to online publishing. They have put the full text of over 200 of their self-improvement and life-skills books online to read for free, without any registration or other encumbrance.

The Brief

Bozboz were asked to redevelop the How To website from scratch. The client required a new logo and brand image laid over a site which was to be built on a highly modular and customisable framework to allow total flexibility in the presentation of content.

A bespoke content management system with integrated xml importer was needed to allow newly published content to fit seamlessly with existing titles.

A database was designed to maintain constant site structure after the new site was rolled out (vital for preserving the long-tail performance of the site in Google's SERPS) while also supporting a new improved cataloguing system.

Support for fully customisable sidebar 'widgets' was needed to allow new functionality such as social networking features to be added easily from within the CMS.

A fast and reliable caching system was required to deal with very high traffic loads. How To Books also requested a fully managed hosting solution.

To improve the site's standings from a Search Engine Optimisation perspective, and monetise the content more effectively, Bozboz were also asked to oversee and implement an ongoing SEO campaign married to Google's content based Ad serving application.
