The latest show in the Bozboz Gallery, ‘Never Mind the Punk 45’ opened this week. The mixed media show features decollages from the forerunners of the punk rock movement’s debut 45 releases.
The 7” single is an underrated art form that is released, grabs our attention and disappears before we know it. Then, bands move onto their next musical or visual statement.
In Never Mind the Punk 45, Mal-One uses the original 7” artworks alongside snippets of related material to show the bands back story. From press cuttings, to tickets and promo badges, the show encapsulates the vibrant subculture.
Bands included in the show are Adam & The Ants, Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Damned, Ian Dury, Generation X, The Jam, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Stranglers and X Ray Spex.
Also showing is the work 100 Punks - a collage of 100 Punks singles inspired by the original wall in the Rough Trade Shop that comprised of many of the punk record sleeves from the time.
Never Mind The Punk 45 is a follow up to ‘The Class of ‘76’, which also exhibited at the Bozboz Gallery. Never Mind the Punk 45 is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11-5pm until the 30th of June. If you’d like anymore information, please email [email protected].
